DEPARTURE
By: Cynthia Villanueva
It was a normal bright day
not a single rain cloud in the sky
our house full of excited chatter
mixed with happy laughter.
Father on vacation will be leaving soon
back to his work in a far foreign land,
friends he had not seen for a long, long time
decided to visit my father
all of them reminiscing stories of their
time that has gone by.
Time flew so fast when everyone was enjoying
in the horizon the sun was setting
friends saying goodbyes and well wishes
my father the accommodating one
offered them a ride to their far away home.
My birthday car was a convenience
brand new, bought not too long ago,
a requested gift now comes handy
to bring friends home safely.
They all went their merry way
my brother and cousin tagged along
full of life, they even sang along
not even thinking of any danger
that may be coming soon.
At home we waited and waited
for the trio to come back
when night and dawn are fighting
we learned that my father and brother
are now in a place where angels sing.
Three went out but only one came back
a tragedy that ripped our heart apart,
their voices that earlier rings so loud
are now silent and will only stay in our heart.
